The Northwest Rod & Gun Club Invites All to Enjoy Their Public Shooting Range This Fall
Boyceville, Wisconsin – September 2025 – Northwest Rod & Gun Club (NWRGC) is the organization charged with operating Dunn County’s Boyceville public range located in northern Dunn County. The range is open to the public at minimal or no cost. It is established to provide a safe, friendly, and functional shooting-sports facility that meets the needs of area shooters. With hunting and other sport-shooting activities getting started this fall, the NWRGC wants to remind all hunters, shooters, and those interested in learning and trying these activities that they are invited to visit and enjoy the range.
“The NWRGC was founded in 1960 and has been serving as a local conservation and shooting-sports club continuously since then,” said Club President Jeff Annis. “The Boyceville Range is owned by Dunn County and leased to us. We do not charge fees to come and shoot your rifles, handguns, or bows. However, there is a small charge to cover the cost of clay targets when shooting a round of trap. And we also graciously accept any donations visitors give to help us keep the range clean, well-maintained, and open to the public.”
The Boyceville facility includes an archery range with targets from 10 to 50 yards, 10 pistol shooting positions with target stands from 4 to 25 yards, a 180-yard rifle range with 24 covered shooting benches, and two trap houses for shotgun clay target shooting. There are also heated warming-houses for late-season outings.
“Where most shooting ranges charge significant fees to enjoy shooting activities, we do not,” explained Annis. “We are a membership-run organization, where our members pay to join and volunteer a significant amount of their time and hard work. Our members and range supervisors play a crucial role in helping to keep the range thriving and open to the public. They get much satisfaction helping to keep shooting sports and hunting heritage alive and thriving in Dunn County.”
The range is open only when a certified range supervisor is present. View the online calendar to see the scheduled open-to-the-public range times. Many other events take place at the range, including youth firearm sight-in clinics and hunts, high-school trap clubs, pistol shoots, muzzleloader shoots, and deer rifle sight-in days before opening day of Wisconsin’s gun season. As well as club meetings, range supervisor training sessions, and much more.
The NWRGC and the Boyceville facility do a good job providing firearm and hunting education. DNR-sponsored training and hunter safety training are also conducted at the range. People new to shooting or looking to try the activity for the first time can call to schedule a meeting with a volunteer for instruction and training. Shotguns are available for use upon request.
“This truly is a hidden gem in the Wisconsin woods, just outside our quaint little Boyceville community,” continued Annis. “We are a short drive from Hudson and Eau Claire. We are very close to the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie. We are also within walking distance of an airport in Boyceville for those who want to visit by private plane. Our location is a convenient place to learn about, practice and participate in shooting sports. And it is a great place to enjoy wildlife, woods, and natural beauty, we have picnic tables plus miles of walking trails around the range.”
The public is welcome at the Boyceville Shooting Range. However, NWRGC also offers membership to provide increased access to the range, volunteer opportunities to do range work and supervision, and other benefits or perks.
